First love's about out... finding out about love's first!

Last year was full of so many firsts for me. It felt like the start of a journey. This album felt like it was my first in so many ways, so I wanted to treat it as one. This was the plan from the start- whatever I came up with would form the blueprint for my future as an artist. I've always regarded my music as being emotionally honest at their core. But there's a lot of posturing in them. There were always people I wanted to impress, even if it was someone who will never hear my songs, like David Bowie or Joey Ramone. But there's no pretension in these songs, and I'm at a point where I'm okay with that. There's more love here than ever, because I feel more love than I ever have. I love the people I wrote these songs for so, so much. There's also a lot of pain in the songs here because I've allowed myself to feel more pain than I ever have. And this time I'm not couching that pain in lyrics about skellingtons and satan and war and pagan gods. I'm putting it in the plainest words available to me. I'm lost, I'm sad, you left me, I feel alone. I'm scared to love again. That's a valley in the human experience where so much great art has been made. So join me for the peaks and valleys. Whether you've stuck around or you're just joining, I welcome you.
